Cal Fire Incident Information

The Loma Fire (of 2009) started near Loma Prieta Way in Santa Clara County and spread to the Santa Cruz County area of Maymens Flat, including Highland Road, Eureka Canyon and Ormsby. The fire started on October 25, 2009 and was contained on October 27, burning 669 acres.

More than 1,700 fire personnel were on scene. The fire cost an estimated $4 million to fight. It started when Cal Fire crews were burning piles of brush as part of an effort to reduce fire risk off Loma Prieta Avenue in Santa Clara County, near the border of Santa Cruz County.

In 2016, another fire was named the Loma Fire, which burned more than 4,700 acres near Loma Prieta Mountain in September and October.
