Biography

Mason Klaus Rosenberg is a musician, composer, recording engineer, and music producer living in Santa Cruz, CA. 

Mason was born* in Madison, WI, briefly lived in Utah and later moved to Santa Cruz, CA where he attended Happy Valley Elementary** Branciforte Jr. High, Harbor High School and Cabrillo College.

In 2000, at the age of ten, Mason attended his first live rock concert - King Crimson at the Fillmore in San Francisco. In a report on the show that he wrote for school, he stated that that is what he wanted to do when he grew up.

Mason was naturally attracted to all things musical and began playing guitar at a very early age. He started playing bass in 2002 when he was still in Jr. high school and quickly became proficient at playing King Crimson, Primus, and Red Hot Chili Peppers songs. 

In 2003, Mason played clarinet in the Branciforte Jr. High School band.

In 2004, Mason formed the Dusty Sampson Creatures, a power trio featuring Ari Warren on drums, Catlin Ulrich, on guitar and Mason on bass.

In 2005 Mason teamed up with Paul Sintetos to create The Cock, an electronic/bass duo that performed covers of Daft Punk and other popular songs, in addition to original compositions.

In 2006 Mason became one of the founding members of the Vox Jaguars, a relatively successful band that featured a variety of members including Justin Fisher on keyboards, Sam Copperman on keyboards, Luke David keyboards/production, Noah Bond on guitar, Jordan Topf on guitar/vocals, Trevor Hope on drums and Mason Rosenberg on drums/keyboards/bass. The band released two EP's, (Out of Luck\Powerhouse), had music featured on FOX TV's prime time drama, Canterbury's Law and appeared on MIX TV's international music program before going on indefinite hiatus.

2007 brought on the creation of  Pterodactobot, featuring Stefen Laser on voice/elektronics, Trevor Cox and Robin Wotanedtum on electric guitars and Mason on bass and programming. Pterodactobot won Harbor High School's Battle of the Bands in 2007 which earned them a free recording session at the renowned Mars Recording Studio.

In 2008, Mason and Stefan Laser teamed up again to form the progressive rock ensemble, A Quantum Visionary (AQV). AQV featured Trevor Cox and Shane Terry on guitars/percussion, Greg Wessenfeld on drums/percussion, Stefen Laser on vocals/keys/percussion/programming/recording, and Mason on bass/percussion/vocals/programming/recording. The prog band released one CD titled, Dreamstate.

In 2008, another Mason and Stefen Laser project materialized under the moniker, CouteauX, a dynamique electronique duo that remixed songs by the Mars VoltaT Pain and Mountain Animal Hospital, to name a few.

Mason and Jordan Topf were invited to play in Electric Leaves Ensemble, a band that featured Art Emanuel on drums/percussion and Vox Jaguars' producer Luke David on keys/guitar/vocals.

That same year, Mason graduated from Harbor High School*** and was voted "Best Musician" an honor that he shared with his former Dusty Sampson Creatures bandmate, Catlin Ulrich. 

In summer of 2008, Mason was invited to play in Bright Stone, an Aptos, CA band featuring Art Emanuel on drums/percussion/production, Luke David on lap steel/organ/keys/production, Ryan Martin on vocals/ guitar/harmonica/organ/piano/production, Brendan Martin on guitar/vocals, Neil Macpherson on piano/organ and Mason on bass. The band released a full-length CD in Fall of 2008.

By 2009, Mason had released four CD's with three different bands. He began his own solo project that he called The Cogito, a personal ambient/dubstep/electronic/techno project that consists of mostly original compositions but also includes numerous remixes and collaborations with other musicians.

In 2010, Mason teamed up with Vox Jaguars' drummer, Trevor Hope, to create a new band that was originally intended to be called Bangers and Mash, but ended up being known on YouTube as Vox Chupacabra. The band recorded an EP that featured four original tracks with Lizzy Shipton on keyboards/vocals and Duncan Shipton on guitar, Trevor Hope on drums/percussion and Mason on bass/recording/production. 

Mason was inducted into the elite choral group, Il Dolce Suono and performed with the ensemble throughout the Monterey Bay area. Il Dolce Suono joined with the Santa Cruz County Symphony for their performances of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony.* CD's were issued from the performances in Santa Cruz, CA and Watsonville, CA.

In 2011, Mason was invited to play in the enigmatic  Denney Joints' Midnite Snack and Nick Overhauser's supergroup, Ship of the Sierras. Both bands celebrated CD releases together at The Crepe Place in Santa Cruz on April 21, 2011. Mason played bass in both bands while Nick Overhauser played guitar and vocals in Ship of the Sierras and drums in Midnite Snack. Denney Joints played guitar and vocals in both bands while Peter Wallner, (of Sheena), played drums in Ship of the Sierras. Emily Pegoda played keys and provided backup vocals for Ship of the Sierras. Rachel Fennan, (of Birds Fled From Me/Sleepy Sun/Anywhere/Only You), also performed that night. 

In August 2011, Mason had a rare opportunity to participate with members of King Crimson at the Three of a Perfect Pair Camp where he received instruction from, and performed with Adrian Belew,  Tony Levin and Pat Mastelotto

In 2012, Mason was invited by former bandmate, Stefen Lazer, to play in Old Arc, an electronic/techno ensemble that started as a two man band featuring Stefen Lazer and Austin Lee. Mason was joined by another former AQV bandmate, Greg Wesenfeld who played percussion.

Two of Cogito's songs appeared on the first Sleepy Beach compilation CD, Vicissitunes Vol. 1, that featured a variety of local Santa Cruz techno artists including Tree, Old Arc, Heart Tricks, etc.

In 2013 Mason and Matt Gray founded the band, Blythe and recorded a yet to be released CD titled, In the Glow of Noon. 

Mason spent most of 2013 recording and producing music for various artists in the Santa Cruz, CA area including the talented singer/songwriter Adrea Castiano. His remiX of her song, Falling won him the prestigious BEST SONG of 2013 award. 


* Beethoven's Ninth Symphony was being played on a boom box as Mason was being born.
