Restricted Sites

To help preserve the sites, some have restricted locations that cannot be made public.  In Santa Cruz County, all the restricted locations are for sites of early Ohlone settlements. Typically a grave area.

Demolished Sites

Some sites have been demolished. Although National Registry status provides some protection, there is always the matter of safety. The Glen Canyon Bridge was first moved to be on display before being torn down.  

Santa Cruz

Removed

When a site is gone, it can be removed from the national database. This usually requires a request from the local governing association and a reason given. This has been done to only one National Registry site in Santa Cruz County. Reason given, was probably because so much of it was destroyed by the earthquake of 1988.

*National Registry database has  "Hihn Building." Superintendent's  Office is used by the State of California and locals, because there is a Hihn building in Santa Cruz.
