Peace Camp 2010 was a protest against the camping ban in the City of Santa Cruz, which has made since 1976 sleeping in public illegal between the hours of 11pm and 8:30am. The protest was organized by local attorney and homeless activist Ed Frey, and had the participation of many members of Homeless United for Friendship and Freedom. It began on July 4, 2010, on the steps of the County Government Center. In August county deputies began issuing citations and arresting those participating, and the protest moved to City Hall, lasting through September.
