The Redwood Violet, or Viola sempervirens, is found in moist areas and especially near streams in the redwood forest habitat. The plant blooms from February through June, and this native variety, like other violets, is related to pansies. Historically, Redwood Violets have been used to make candied violets, flavored vinegar, and leaf tea, but locally, the flower is semi-rare now.
