The Department Chair is currently Lori Kletzer. The PhD Program Director is Ken Kletzer. The MS Program Director is Robert Farilie. The Undergraduate Program Director is Nirvikar Singh.

The Department has two research centers: the Santa Cruz Center for International Economics (SCCIE) and the Learning and Experimental Economics Projects of Santa Cruz (LEEPS).

The Department is considered to have its core strength in international economics, and the faculty also conduct research in other areas, including many varieties of applied microeconomics.
