The Western Azalea is found near streams and moist meadows in the redwood and mixed evergreen forests. It blooms from June through September, and is one of the most fragrant of all local, native flowers, however, all parts of the plant are poisonous. Large stands of the shrub/tree can be found near Opal Creek and Blooms Creek in Big Basin.
