A Pirate Cat Radio dude speaks against the establishment of a Valencia storefront. Public comment during the Planning Commission meeting was overwhelmingly against the establishment of a storefront on Valencia Street.

American Apparel was planning to open a store at 988 Valencia Street next to Artists Television Access. A large movement successfully stopped the corporate chain store from opening. At the Planning Commission meeting on Februrary 5, 2009 more than 50 people spoke in opposition to the conditional use permit American Apparel was applying for. Only a couple people spoke for the store being established in the location. Of those speaking for the establishment of the storefront, only one wasn't an employee of the corporation. The commission voted unanimously against the conditional use permit.
