Hayes Valley Farm is a beautiful transformation of urban space. A short term lease was granted to the founders of HVF on a city block that once was the location of the freeway off-ramp; now it is a an urban farm and permaculture teaching space. It was founded in 2010.

HVF offers volunteer opportunities and classes on permaculture, urban farming, organic production, composting, tree pruning, and much more. They boast a seed library, working examples of bioremediation and sheet mulching, apicary, a greenhouse, solar charging, and vegetable, fruit, and flower production.  This temporal green space has brought many members of the community together, both during their regularly scheduled volunteer times and for many special events.

Jay Bluebird always keeps a warm pot of coffee brewing.

Hayes Valley Farm was subject to a two-year lease, after which the land is being developed. The farm will be destroyed, but similar green spaces are expected to propagate on other unused parcels.
