The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA) is located near Yerba Buena Gardens. It is several stories high and very pretty. Its ideas of modern art are comprehensive, so visitors need not worry about staring at blobs of paint on every wall. The museum has photography, sculptures, interactive displays, art with identifiable subjects, and other interesting strange things. It does have artistic blobs of paint on some walls, though. They're very pretty blobs.
Thursday evenings (after 6 pm) are half-price ($5 adult, instead of $10). Kids under 12 can get in free.
The first Tuesday of each month, entry to SFMOMA is FREE! Check out a free family pass from the library through their Free Family Adventures program.
The cafe is decent, but pricey.
