The Mission police precinct includes an area of about 2.5 square miles, in which about 85,000 people live. Its police presence comprises six patrol cars 'round the clock and five on-foot officers for a minimum of 8 hours a day.

Captain Tim Hettrich was instated as the district's commander in February 2008, and plans to initiate a number of changes. Beat cops will be assigned to the area from 11 am to 9 pm, when most businesses in the neighborhood are open. Additionally, lieutenants are obligated to implement "enforcement plans" of their own initiation
