Summary: The EHS program is the main contributor to campus safety. They work to promote environmental stewardship and protect the health and safety of SF State faculty, staff and students. They make guidelines for other programs while providing technical expertise and support through the programs.
Evaluation: The student safety around campus reveals a mixed picture. During the day, students generally feel safe, with police presence not causing discomfort. However, concerns arise at night, especially for commuting students who resort to personal protection like pepper spray. Despite available resources, utilization remains low, indicating a need for increased awareness or effectiveness. Survey results emphasize a desire for enhanced security measures, particularly around evening bus stops and the Park Merced area. Furthermore, students advocate for improved lighting to bolster nighttime safety across campus. Addressing these concerns could significantly enhance the overall sense of security among the students.
