Students in Operation Smile strive to raise funds for surgeries for children and young adults in developing countries who were born with cleft lip and palate. They raise awareness and fundraise for Operation Smile. Operation Smile also works as a non-governmental organization to help reduce the occurrence of cleft lips and palates around the world. When on campus Operation Smile and their sister organization, NSSLHA would hold meetings in Burk Hall. One of their main goals is to help raise awareness about craniofacial abnormalities as well as funding for Operation Smile’s medical team to provide free craniofacial surgeries for children around the world. Their campus advisor is the SLHS dean, Dr. Laura Epstein but they also collaborate with other professors in the program such as Dr. Betty Yu.   Operation Smile also works as a non-governmental organization to help reduce the occurrence of cleft lips and palates around the world.
