Gator Groceries is dedicated to providing free groceries to any SFSU student in need . Associated Students provides fresh produce, snacks, and canned food on a weekly basis. Simply show up and sign up to receive free groceries. The Gator Groceries program began at SFSU in 2017 with a weekly food pantry program and the goal to promote awareness about food insecurity and support students. The Associated Students at SF State partnered with the SF- Marin Food Bank to provide groceries to students battling food insecurity due to the costs of school or the rising costs of living. Students fill out a survey questioning their access to nutritional foods or grocery stores, as well as other food topics. Gator Groceries serves three hundred to three hundred and fifty students weekly, passing out enough groceries to feed three adults in a household for a week.  Food Boxes must be reserved before pickup.

This program has expanded to include a refrigeration unit next to iNoodle in the Cesar Chavez Center, Annex 1, and a truck that parks near Student Services. Gator Groceries works in tandem with SFSU Health and Wellness and the Student Nutrition and Dietetic Association to provide students with nutritional education, such as cooking classes. Contact the SNDA or the Associated Students for more information about food resources offered on or off-campus. Visit the Basic Needs website for information about Gator Groceries, CalFresh, or SNAP (EBT food stamps).
