Hospice SLO (also known as Hospice of San Luis Obispo County) is a comprehensive resource center providing non-medical support through group and individual counseling programs that are free of charge. Hospice SLO believes that no one should have to face death, serious illness or grief by themselves. It's that belief that has motivated Hospice SLO staff and volunteers to serve the Central Coast community since its incorporation in 1977. Hospice SLO supports the community in coping with loss and promoting healing by providing free counseling, community education and volunteer support to those grieving a death or dealing with potential end-of-life issues.
As the only volunteer hospice in the county, Hospice SLO relies 100% on the generosity from community donations, fundraising events, grants, and the time and talent of over 200 volunteers to compassionately help more than 6,000 individuals annually. Free services Hospice SLO offers include in-home respite care, grief (or anticipatory grief) counseling, support groups, pet care for animal owners on hospice care, community response, and community education and trainings.
