John Roy Badgley (1922-2014) was an architect and Cal Poly professor.
Badgley was born in 1922 in Huntington, West Virginia. He graduated from Occidental College in 1943 with a degree in city planning. He studied architecture at the Harvard Graduate School of Design, graduating in 1949 with a Bachelor of Architecture degree. From 1949 to 1951 he worked with Los Angeles architects.1
Badgley opened his own practice "John Badgley and Associates" in San Luis Obispo, located at 981 Monterey Street. He joined the architectural engineering department faculty at Cal Poly in 1952.2 He may have been the first licensed architect in faculty (needs more research). He was familiar with the area because in 1941 he was employed at Camp San Luis as a surveyor.3
His designs featured signature elements such as walls made from local river rock.4
In 1965 Badgley moved to San Francisco.5
