What started as a senior project by Mechanical Engineering students Robert Schairer, Ryan Vytlacil, and Myles Wittman in Fall 2011 was turned into a core part of the curriculum for Dr. Mello's Composites course at Cal Poly.

By taking the course, you get to build your own pair of carbon fiber snowshoes in lab! The snowshoes are extremely durable and lightweight.  Currently the lightest mountaineering snowshoe with rigid deck design available, they weigh less than the MSR Denali model by half a pound.  The snowshoes have stainless steel footplate fully equipped with the CP logo (which stamps in the fresh powder with every step) and a bottle opener for satisfying all your backcountry beer needs.  Make a pair this spring in ME412!
