Hunter S. Thompson

Quite early in his career as a gonzo journalist, Hunter S. Thompson and his wife Sandy lived for a while at a place he called “Owl House”, out near where Bennett Valley and Warm Springs roads meet. His highly controversial story, “Nights in the Rustic” (which appeared in the August 1967 issue of Cavalier Magazine), is said to have brought a $5 million dollar suit against him and the magazine by the owners of the Rustic Inn. Here is a link to that story: http://totallygonzo.org/gonzowriting/rare-articles; you'll have to scroll down to find it, but it's there. It does capture something of Glen Ellen's colorful past.
