April 19, 2005 - The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum and Library was dedicated. Guests included President George W. Bush, and senators Dick Durbin and Barack Obama who spoke at the event.
March 12, 2006 - Twin F2-strength tornadoes ripped through Springfield leaving 24 injured and none dead.
February 10, 2007 - United States Senator Barack Obama announces his candidacy for president at the Old State Capitol.
August 23, 2008 - Senator Barack Obama announces Joseph Biden as his vice-presidential running mate at the Old State Capitol.
February 12, 2009 - Bicentennial of Abraham Lincoln's birthday which included President Obama's first official trip outside of Washington D.C. to celebrate the birthday with Springfield.
