The hacker collective Anonymous has played a roll in the events unfolding in Ferguson.

Before the release of Darren Wilson's name as the officer who shot and killed Michael Brown, Anonymous was pressuring the police to release his name. They released the names of who other officers who they alleged were the perpetrators. These names later turned out to be false.

Anonymous also released and circulated tapes from 911 dispatch calls related to the shooting and subsequent events.
