The memorial commemorates the Australian and Korean veterans of the Korean War (1950 – 1953). Korean War often referred to as the "forgotten war", 17,000 Australian troops served in the United Nations contingent, and 340 lost their lives between 1950 and 1953.
The war memorial site is located at the northern end of Moore Park, a highly significant public parkland area less than 3km from the Sydney CBD.
