Opening its doors originally in 2001 as "Leon School Readiness Coalition," the Early Learning Coalition of the Big Bend Region serves Gadsden, Jefferson, Leon, Liberty, Madison, Taylor, and Wakulla Counties. A contracted partner with the State of Florida's Office of Early Learning, the ELC is responsible for the administration of the School Readiness and Voluntary PreKindergarten programs.
ELC connects 7,000 children and their families to the early learning program that best meets the needs of the child and family. They work with a network of over 300 child care programs and local community partners.
The chairman and vice chair of the board of directors of ELC is appointed by the governor.
