HONOR FLIGHT TALLAHASSEE

HONOR FLIGHT is a national non-profit organization that has recently come to our area.  The goal of all Honor Flight's is to pay to send World War II veterans from a specific area to Washington, D.C. to give them the honorable experience of visiting the memorial to all of them.

The service of all our vets and their sacrifices have saved the world from oppression.  By sending our veterans on this trip, we can say "thank you" is this very small way.  HONOR FLIGHT TALLAHASSEE was established in 2012 to bring the program to the North Florida and South Georgia areas.  Public support is needed to provide these flights.   They are provided to our veterans at no cost.  Volunteers accompany each flight.  There is a ratio of 8 veterans to 3 guardians.  All volunteers pay for their own flight. The focus of the first trip will be on WW II veterans, but a special effort is being arranged to help terminally ill veterans.  Once HONOR FLIGHT has taken WW II vets, the focus will shift to provide the same service to those who served in the Korean War and in Vietnam.

At  present, over 8000 veterans of WW II are on a national waiting list, and given the ages of the people who served their country during this time, many will not be able to visit the memorial created to honor their service. Public support is needed to provide these flights.  Each flight costs close to $80,000.  Fortunately, the Leon County Board of County Commissioners has started the campaign for the first ever Tallahassee flight scheduled for spring, 2013 by donating $10,000.  HONOR FLIGHT accepts donations from anyone except WW II vets.  They have given enough.
