Tallahassee Astronomical Society is extremely active within our community.  The first Wednesday of the month, THE STAR GUY, write a detailed column within the pages of the TALLAHASSEE DEMOCRAT.  He details what to look for in our skies, and what and how planets are aligned, etc.  On the first Saturday of each month, the SOCIETY presents a free hour long presentation of the Skies Over Tallahassee.  This is held at the IMAX theater on Kleman Plaza. These presentations are in the big theater with the overhead screen, that helps you understand locations and variables of our night time wonders.

The Society also does field locations, where they set up their personal telescopes for folks of all ages to use.  Sometimes these adventures are at Lake Ella, or, at Alford Greenway, at the dead-end of Pedrick Road.

Recently, the Society has built an observatory at Cypress Landing, on Lake Miccosukee.  The observatory has a dome, and a permanent telescope.  The location site borders Leon County and Jefferson County.  Watch for announcements as to the grand opening.  Check the Star Guys column, or, better yet, take the family to one of the monthly sessions.

Location of Cypress Landing can be found by taking Mahan Drive past I-10, and Lloyd, to Magnolia Rd.  Turn North, Cypress Rd. will be on your right.  OR  Miccosukee Rd, and/or Centerville/Moccasin Gap Rd., east to  where they intersect near the Miccosukee Fire Tower.  Turn south on Magnolia Rd.  Cypress rd. will be on your left.

Enjoy the adventure and the chance to learn all about our magnificent heavenly bodies!!!
