SUPER CLEAN SWEEP

This is an annual clean up of areas of the Apalachicola National Forest.  Waste is dumped in what the foresters refer to as "hot spots" that includes tires, paint, construction type materials, garbage, furniture,  and many other items.  The areas are used by people who do not want to go through the trouble of properly disposing of what they have.  Most of the items require a charge for disposal, which some people object to. Volunteers are organized by the Forest Edge neighborhood and sent out in teams.  The Forest Edge neighborhood began the clean-up over 25 years ago with just a few of the children living their, and their parents.  About 15 years ago they teamed up with Keep Tallahassee Beautiful.  This volunteer event coincides with the national cleanup day spearheaded by Keep America Beautiful.  Wakulla County will be cleaning up their side of the forest.

The sweep in Leon County starts on Forest Road 305, off Rivers Road @ 8am.  To register call 850-877-6579, or email at  aPlanToMeet @earthlink.net
