CIVIL RIGHTS

Our local governmental bodies have created a television documentary about a few of our worst hours.  It is called "Footsteps to Freedom", and is a look through the eyes of the participants at the 1956 bus boycott and the 1960 lunch counter sit-ins.  This video is a follow-up to our recent installation of the heritage sidewalk.  Jefferson Street, right at the intersection with Monroe Street, proudly salutes and pays homage to those same participants and events.  A granite sidewalk has paintings , quotes, and brass footsteps.   The footsteps have the names of one of the active participants, or, as they were called then, the "foot soldiers", in the local civil rights movement.  FSU's Mastercraftsman Studios created the art work and the sidewalk. The sidewalk is now listed on the COCA list of art work in our area.  The documentary can be accessed through the city of Tallahassee.
