Here in Florida, motorcyclists can ride year round, unlike their up north compadres who have to pack their bikes away.  Our two-laner roads, along with the canopy roads, and the beachfront areas are designed for year-round discovery to help you roam.  Here are a few great journeys.

Tallahassee to Defuniak Springs.  Take Hwy 90 for a rural ride.  Once you've escaped the city , enjoy the curving road, that will take you through towns such as Quincy, Chattahoochee, Marianna, Chipley.  You can  explore the Marianna Caverns, visit the Ghoulson Nature Center, look at Falling waters, and keep on riding till you get to DeFuniak Springs  where you can ride a loop around the circular Lake deFuniak, and end your ride at the Chautauqua Winery.

Tallahassee to Apalachicola:  Get on Hwy 98 and just enjoy the ride.  You'll hug the curving shoreline of the Gulf of Mexico, and you can swing into the wood of Tate's Hell, have a beach stop at one of the spectacular white beaches, and visit St. George's island.  Once you're in Apalachicola, dismount and walk the town.  It's a true waterfront community, with lots of good places to eat and rest.

Leaving Apalachicola you can coninue on the scenic Hwy 30 and 30a.  You'll be breathing in really fresh air from the Gulf while you enjoy spotting the white sand beaches.  This area offers one of the most unusual phenomena in the country.  We have rare coastl dune lakes, which are created by the changing of the tides.  Stop and investigate, and maaybe explore on a trail or two.  Rest at one of the multitude of state parks, and/or local community outlets to the beach areas.  Bird life is busy all along with routs.  Enjoy the ride!

Pensacola to Panama City Beach.  South of Pensacola, take a 15-mile ride on ST.399, going through the Gulf Islands National Seashore.  Follow Hwy 98 through Fort Walton Beach and Destsin, then drive down Hwy. 30 A, and cruise Grayton Beach state park.  You can chill out in Watercolor and Seaside, go swim or sun bathe on Panama City Beach.

Staying in Tallahassee, you can cruise our delightful canopy roads, ride Chaires Cross, or take part in the Ability 1st Capital city BikeFest, held the first weekend in December.  Summit East, 2073 Summit Lake Drive, is the site, and it begins at noon.  there will be food trucks, biker portraits, a swap meet, and exhibitors.  And, lots of really good live music by local bands.

Our newest trailhead for motorcycles is within the environs of the Apalachicola National Forest.  The new Springhill Motorcycle trailhead had a great parking area that allows ample parking for trailers.  There is plenty of room to safely offload motorcycles and equipment.  And, the Fisher Creek Bridge, that links the northern and southern motorized trails has been replaced with a 90 foot single span bridge.

Our local motorcycle group can be found at www.canopyroadcruisers.com  Also look for Tallahassee Trail Riders and/or Red Hills Powersports of Tallahassee.
