Punta de Tiburon was named by the Spanish explorers in 1775. Because of its proximity to SanFrancisco, it then became a major railroad terminus, maintenance yard and industrial town. The last train left Tiburon on September 25, 1967.

Town of Tiburon takes up most of Tiburon Peninsula. It incorporated in 1964. It has rich history and sailing community.
