Mission Statement
The Annex Cat Rescue is a Canadian charity that is dedicated to helping stray and feral cats in Toronto. The rescue does not run an animal shelter but operates through a network of foster homes. Vet care and adoptions are arranged for lost or abandoned strays or the kittens (of feral cats) in foster care. We feed several feral colonies and trap-neuter/spay-return (TNR) feral adult cats (to prevent breeding).

Origins

The Annex Cat Rescue was founded in 1997 by residents of The Annex neighbourhood in downtown Toronto with a common interest in finding homes for the kittens of a neighbourhood colony and providing food for the adults. As this group discovered, the problem was much larger than they had imagined. A network of foster homes was established for kittens and tame strays, and an adoption service was born. Adults too wild for the indoor life were spayed or neutered and then returned to their familiar outdoor environment.

Over the years, ACR has expanded its geographical area both for services and volunteers. ACR feeds most of the feral cats in Chinatown and Kensington Market and accepts kittens from anywhere in the GTA. ACR has also been involved in numerous TNR (Trap-Neuter/Spay-Return) projects throughout Toronto.
