This little island of an eatery is tucked in between several crossroads of the downtown professional canyons of Bay Street, Hospital Row, City Hall, and just steps west from its original digs at what now is Yonge Dundas Square.

There is an aura of an easy going cafeteria feel to this place. The owners' kids are often hanging around which adds to the idea that all the food is home cooked.

The place is bright with white fluorescent lights.

$2.99 will buy you a jerk chicken dinner of spicy leg section, mildly curried lentil dahl, iceberg lettuce and carrot julienne over rice 'n' peas.

The Grove's roti — boneless chicken or goat in barely curried gravy, roughly puréed butternut squash, spice-charged eggplant — are a third the price of those sold elsewhere; butter chicken stewed in what tastes like cardamom-laced Campbell's cream of tomato soup over plain rice and plainer salad.
