Denzil Minnan-Wong is a City Councillor representing Ward 34 Don Valley East.

He is the son of Denzil Minnan-Wong, Sr. a Chinese immigrant who was a prominent member of the Progressive Conservative Party of Ontario. His father passed away in 1988 at age 53.

Minnan-Wong then became a lawyer specializing in immigration issues.

In 1994 North York councillor Barry Burton died of cancer and the North York city council appointed him as interim councillor. Later that year he was elected to the position in the municipal election.

In 1997 he was elected to the city council of the new Megacity. On city council he was best known for his campaign against Squeegee kids and to reform the city's taxi system.

One of the councils right wingers he has long been a strong proponent of tax cuts.
