Fairview Mall & The Peanut
Landmarks and Shopping
Fairview Mall is the biggest and best known landmark in this neighbourhood. Fairview Mall is currently the eastern end of Sheppard Subway (the original plan was to have the subway continue through Scarborough all the way to the Scarborough Town Centre). Also in this neighbourhood is the Peanut. This is a large peanut shaped traffic circle on Don Mills Rd. This area is large enough to house The Peanut Plaza; Georges Henry Secondary School; Woodbine Junior High School; the Oriole Park Community Centre; and the Advent Lutheran Church. A number of community partners have come together to create a large community garden on the church grounds. Nymark Plaza is another strip mall in the neighbourhood located at Leslie and Nymark, the gas station in the plaza is usually the last one in the area to raise it's prices.
Housing
The neighbourhood includes a mix of highrise apartments, townhouse complexes and single detached houses.
Parks
A tributary of the Don River runs through this neighbourhood. Most of this creek has been piped underground, but it surfaces at Glentworth Park just north of Sheppard Ave. The valley parkland continues to the north connecting Dallington Park, Lescon Park and Bellbury Park.
History
At 5365 Leslie St. is the historic McDougald Estate. The property used to include an orchard and horse stables, now it has been turned into a small estate home subdivision originally named "Breeders Circle" but was renamed in 2002 to "Green Meadows Circle".
