Faisal practices in a broad range of areas including non-profit/charity law, Islamic finance, civil litigation, human rights and alternative dispute resolution. He has advised and acted for a number of the leading Islamic Finance companies and charities in Canada. He has also acted on behalf of individuals and institutions caught up in anti-terrorism investigations.

Faisal studied economics (Dean’s Honour Roll) at York University and completed his LL.B. (cum laude) from the University of Ottawa. He also holds an LL.M. from Osgoode Hall Law School of York University in Civil Litigation and Dispute Resolution. Faisal served terms as the articles editor and the book reviews editor of the Ottawa Law Review. He is currently a Ph.D. candidate at Osgoode Hall Law School. His dissertation examines the impact of anti-terrorism legislation and policies on the rule of law. He is also currently completing his Diploma in Islamic Banking from the International Institute of Islamic Banking and Insurance (London, U.K.).

Faisal articled with Goodman and Carr, a prominent Toronto law firm, before starting his own practice in 1996.

Faisal teaches in the Skills and Professional Responsibility Program administered by the Law Society of Upper Canada. He taught corporate/commercial law in the Bar Admissions Course from 2001 until 2005. He has also taught law at a Toronto college as well as legal research and writing at Osgoode Hall Law School of York University.

Faisal has published articles in the Toronto Star, National Post, Montreal Gazette, Ottawa Citizen, Buffalo News, London Free Press, Law Times, Windsor Star, Hamilton Spectator, Al Ahram, Arab News, and numerous other publications around the world.

He is also a regular contributor to The Washington Report and The Lawyers Weekly.

Faisal is a member of the Canadian Bar Association, the Canadian Council on International Law, the International Bar Association, the Investigative Reporters and Editors Association, and the Canadian Association of Journalists.

Faisal is the Vice-Chair of the Canadian Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR-CAN), a board member of the Islamic Social Services Association of North America, and he serves as the General Counsel for the Canadian-Muslim Civil Liberties Association (CMCLA). He also serves on the Board of Advisors of Children of Hope.
