Give a tip to the environment this Earth Week with GREENtuity
April 18 – 25 Torontonians can give green!
TORONTO, ON: Earth Week in Toronto this year will feature a new event GREENtuity, to help raise money for Toronto Green Community (TGC), a local not-for-profit organization. A GREENtuity is a one dollar ‘tip’ that customers can add to their bill at the event’s participating locations across the city. Launched by six local volunteers who wanted to do more for the environment, the group decided to host an Earth Week event to raise funds for TGC’s future projects.
“We are thrilled with GREENtuity and really appreciate the time and effort of the event’s volunteers in jump -starting this unique project,” said TGC’s Executive Director Minaz Asani-Kanji. “Every little bit counts and the funds raised from GREENtuity will help us to continue green projects around the city.”
From the Grassroots store on Bloor Street to Vegetarian Haven on Baldwin Street, all participants fit the criteria of green practices within their business (visit http://www.GREENtuity.org for a list of all participants). The GREENtuities raised at participating locations will go directly to TGC and will help the organization continue environmental programs in Toronto.
“GREENtuity is a simple way for Torontonians to take action into being green,” said Sue Kupka Director of Customer Experience of Pistachio, the eco gift store sponsoring the event. “We wanted to support the organization because they promote local and green initiatives, which are key elements to our business.”
TGC facilitates numerous events and programs in the city. At Christmas you will find TGC volunteers at Mountain Equipment Co-op hosting an eco-friendly gift-wrap station. In the spring, volunteers plant seedlings at community gardens. TGC is currently launching their Apartment Greening project, a joint initiative with Toronto Community Housing Corporation which aims to reduce waste in highrise apartment buildings up to 50 per cent.
The Toronto Green Community is a not-for-profit organization that has strong roots in community engagement and environmental education. It is their mission to engage Torontonians in environmental initiatives where they live, work and play.
