George Ignatieff Theatre, Trinity College
The George Ignatieff Theatre (GIT) is the central hub of activity for the Trinity College community at University of Toronto St. George Campus.
The Theatre's mandate is, to provide a creative space for students.
The University of Trinity College's theatre is named after George Ignatieff, and is fondly known as the GIT .
George Ignatieff served as Provost of the University of Trinity College from 1972 to 1979 and later as chancellor of the University of Toronto from 1980 to 1986.
Uses
As a day time lecture hall, classes are held during the school term.
Outside of School hours, the space plays host to:
- Guest lecturers
- new authors
- conferences
- meetings
- cultural groups
- dance companies
- a chamber orchestra series
- student and professional plays
The Trinity College Dramatic Society makes this their home stage.
Location
16 Devonshire Place Located inbetween and south of Bloor Street and St.George Street intersection and the Royal Ontario Museum.
The theatre is on the ground floor of the Larkin Building, immediately south of parking lot south of Varsity Stadium. Metered Parking is also available along Devonshire Place.
The closest TTC stop is St. George Station, Bedford Road exit making it a five minutes walk to the Theatre.
Being on the Subway Line makes it convenient for community groups which rent the facility on evenings, weekends, and in the summer.
