Jon Reed's art intends to engage our collective memory of the city. Through various exploration of the public space, the street, pathways, lobbies, public transportation.
Jon's work attempts to question and highlight how we define, perceive, remember, occupy and activate our fair city.
This collection of paintings was created over the course of the last four years. They focus on Toronto's in-between spaces. Specifically, those mundane spaces that get brushed over or walked past, where we drift in and out of consciousness, where we retreat into our own thoughts and indulge in our day dream moments.
This is the first exhibition of Jon's paintings. He began painting in acrylic eight years ago, under the guidance of his mentor, collaborator and friend, Joanne Tod. In that time Jon has completed a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Architectural Studies and a Masters Degree in Architecture at the University of Toronto.

2009-05-29 09:27:29 Like any transit aficionado, I enjoy transit related art, from the Spacing buttons to artwork in the Subway system, but these paintings which I spied from the corner of my eye walking up Ossington Avenue stopped me dead in my tracks. I walked into the Gallery and stood stunned at being able to experience the TTC's interstitial spaces in an entirely original light. I really hope others get to feel the same experience seeing these paintings in person before the show ends this Sunday. —HimySyed
