Noise can be defined as unwanted sound. The definition by its very nature is subjective. One person's noise is another person's music, if you take the TTC then you know what I mean. Toronto has Noise Bylaws... So if the party next door starts to carry on well into the night you can complain to the Police. Noise Pollution can interfere with a good night sleep.
Long term exposure to excessive levels of noise can leading to hearing loss. Many people who listen to music on their MP3 players, iPods, cell phones, music in your car etc... crank up the music way to high.
First sign of hearing loss can be a ringing in the ears, sort of like after you leave a dance club or a concert. Generally it goes away in time but repeated, constant exposure can make the damage permanent. Once your hearing is gone it wont comeback. If that happens you may want to get that checked out.
So you may wish to take care of your (and maybe your neighbours) hearing by watching the volume. Also it might be helpful to keep some ear plugs with you. You can buy disposable ear plugs at virtually all drug stores in the city.
