Torontoist is a City Blog about Toronto and everything that happens in it.

Torontoist first hit the local blogosphere on October 26, 2004 as co-founder Sarah Lazarovic http://torontoist.com/2004/10/torontoist_ente_1.php promised to readers] that "Never again will you blindly wonder what's going on in the city."

On Friday Afternoon, December 12 2008, Editor-in-chief David Topping posted that Torontoist as an active city blog will end as of January 1, 2009.

"Torontoist can barely be sustained as it is currently structured, and it will be even harder to develop under the current economic conditions," Topping told the Toronto Star. "We're losing an important alternative voice in the city."

The site's American owner, New York City-based Gothamist, decided to close the site and concentrate on chicagoist.com and bostonist.com.

Torontoist has been named best website in the city a number of times by NOW Magazine. The site averages 250,000 visits and 500,000 page views each month.
