32nd Annual TOTAL HEALTH SHOW
April 17, 18 & 19, 2009 OUR FOOD * OUR EARTH * OUR COMMUNITIES
Metro Toronto Convention Centre (North Building) 255 Front Street West , Toronto
Promoting Personal and Global Wellness
The Total Health Show, North America’s premier natural health show, this year celebrates its 32nd anniversary. The focus for 2009 is “Our Food, Our Earth, Our Communities.” The holistic approach of this popular show embraces a range of issues, from global concerns to personal well-being. With over 60 presenters and more than 200 exhibitors, Total Health 09 offers visitors a wealth of cutting-edge information on natural health, organic foods, sustainable energy and related environmental issues.
Renowned painter and naturalist, Robert Bateman, lectures frequently to increase public awareness of the dangers to our natural heritage. His talk at the show takes its title from his 2005 book, Thinking Like a Mountain, which is both a personal meditation and an impassioned plea for a new conservationist consciousness.
Celebrated international ecologist Vandana Shiva will discuss the concept of “earth democracy” – the idea that social justice and environmental sustainability are inextricably linked.
Along with global issues, the Total Health Show offers a wealth of practical presentations, including raw-food guru Aris Latham. “I teach people how to create food with what they have in their environment,” said Latham. “The goal is to make exciting dishes that appeal to everyone. We begin by highlighting what is in season and then use nuts, seeds and grains to make something that is both beautiful to look at and delicious to eat. I approach my work both as an artist and a food scientist.”
Sally Fallon, author of Nourishing Traditions and founder of the Weston A. Price Foundation is a staunch advocate of nourishing diets of certain “primitive societies” and proponent of the grass roots movement calling for safely produced raw milk.
Dr. Shiv Chopra, PhD, former Health Canada scientist and whistle-blower. He and his colleagues were responsible for keeping Bovine Growth Hormone out of Canadian milk. His name is synonymous with food safety.
The popular Healthy Organic Café, Organic Farmer's Market, Massage Demo Area and a Natural Beauty and Spa Oasis, form a central theme area of refreshment and relaxation. Demos and exhibits provide a plethora of fresh ideas attracting a growing number of people.
This year’s Total Health Filmfest will feature two documentaries. The World According to Monsanto, directed by Marie-Monique Robin, challenges the role played in agriculture by one of the world’s largest chemical companies. Under Our Skin: Lyme Disease reveals new information about this emerging epidemic throughout North America.
Panel Presentations: Corporate Control of Our Food - How Industrial Agriculture Damages a Diverse and Sustainable World Our Natural Health Products at Risk – Implications of Local and International Laws
“As consumers we can make choices that impact our lives, our communities, and our planet,” said show organizer Helen McLellan. “Sharing the latest research and innovations in holistic approaches, our speakers and exhibitors show us how to promote biodiversity, organic traditional farming methods, create ecologically-based communities, eat local foods and preserve the environment for our children.”
