What is 4th Ave? 

Tucson is known for being a desert city that is rich with history. Just outside of The University of Arizona campus, lies the Historical Fourth Ave. Wedged between 8th street and University Boulevard sits a distinctive strip known as Fourth Avenue. Annually they fund a Street Fair that brings in revenue to help local businesses. Local business include a unique variety of over 140 small stores and restaurants located on a historical site, in historical buildings. Stores include anywhere from clothing boutiques to hand made goods, and thrifted items. On top of it all there are even bookstores, grocery stores, artwork, glass shops, tattoo parlors and everything in between! 4th really has it all, but definitely not your typical day shopping experience. Get ready for good, authentic food from breakfast to brunch, lunch and dinner and even late night drinks and munchies. There are plenty of places to hit the town, whether it be going out with friends or going on a date. There are lists of places to sit outside, and drink crafted, locally brewed beer that everyone must try. Explore and take pictures of the beautifully done graffiti from wall to wall on side streets and buildings. And before you leave, don't miss out on the OLDEST Dairy Queen in the state of Arizona, located right on the corner of 4th and 6th street. This place will keep you entertained and amazed all day long. And if that isn't enough, Downtown Tucson is right around the corner. 

There are very few franchise stores on this strip, which helps them obtain their individual, creative and unique establishment. But it was not always a commercial district, 4th ave it also a residential area that many people call home. 4th became a commercial district after the construction underpass in 1916. The distinct charm of this area maintains a balance for tucson locals, tourists and of course college students. In 1983, The North Fourth Avenue Merchants Association formed in order to keep these locally own businesses running with efforts to help them succeed. 2016, marked a big year for the historically known site. 4th Ave celebrated its 100th year anniversary. Along with the celebration, The North Fourth Avenue Merchants Association in conjunction the city of Tucson itself, nominated and registered 4th as a National Historical Site. The central of location of 4th drives the success of the past 100 years and years to come.

Club Crawl

Twice a year 4th Ave hosts a club crawl which  offers 25 live stages of music and events. They play all genres of music, so everyone is welcome to come and enjoy it. It happens every spring and fall and covers over 8 blocks here in Tucson. Wristbands can be purchased in advance for a cheaper price. Or you can buy at the event, but it will save you money to buy ahead of time.

4TH Ave Street Fair

This street fair happens once a year on the busy street we know as, Fourth Avenue.  The weekend long event draws huge crowded of people and helps to stimulate the economy of local stores.  With the attendance of this fair you can expect to find hundreds of vendors that provide customers with a wide variety of art, food and beverages, and entertainment.  The event spans from Friday to Sunday and runs from morning to night.

4th Avenue’s Make-up

Tucson’s hidden gem, 4th avenue is a vibrant and unique street that helps Tucson  stand out.  This popular street is made easy to go to by forms for transportation such as the Unlink Street Car.  This affordable means of transportation drops visitors in the heart of 4th ave.  This is an amenity that makes it so desirable.  This street has something for everyone whether it is restaurants that help meet dietary restrictions or eccentric costume and thrift shops.

      The B Line: Is an eatery that has a menu that will satisfy any craving.  Their food is both aesthetically appealing and healthily delicious.  What sets them apart is their vegan friendly menu, filled with a variety of vegan and gluten free dessert assortments.     Lindy's on 4th: Lindy's is one of the best burger places in Tucson. Their menu includes a variety of different burgers with 1/2 pound patties, fries, onion rings, tater tots, and a well known burger challenge that requires you to finish a burger with 3 pounds of patties, lettuce, cheese, and tomato. Linda's on 4th received great praise by the popular Food Network television show Man Vs. Food after their visit to compete the OMFG challenge. Check out their website and menu with the link below!

  Maloney's: This Irish-American themed bar is very popular on Thursdays and on the weekends. A lot of college students come in on Thursdays because of their free entry with a college ID. Crowds also come in on game days due to the very social and entertaining environment. Maloney's also has a happy hour deal of 2 for 1 drinks every day from 4-7 pm.

 

 O' Malley's: With 24 beers on tap, O' Malley's has become a known landmark on 4th avenue. Mostly popular on the weekends, crowds come to enjoy the lively music and delicious bar food.
