The Tulsa City-County Library provides a free delivery service to customers throughout Tulsa County who are homebound and unable to get to the library on their own. This delivery service is facilitated through the Outreach Services Department which currently serves over 400 homebound customers.

Outreach makes monthly deliveries to over 60 locations including nursing homes, assisted living centers, and retirement communities. A delivery driver brings materials directly to customers’ doors.  Outreach also makes several “lobby stops” each month, during which staff set up a kind of pop-up library with carts of materials for browsing and check-out  in the lobby or dining area of an established site.

For those customers who don’t reside at a current delivery site, Outreach also offers a “Books by Mail” program. This program is similar to the popular Netflix movie rental system- library materials are mailed to customers in a durable library bag which is returned when the customer is finished. Upon receipt of the returned items, Outreach staff then send out more materials to the customer.

If a homebound customer not residing at a delivery site has a family member who is able to pick up and return items to a nearby branch, this system may be used in lieu of Books by Mail.
