James Henry Gardner, petroleum geologist, was born in Sonora, KY on April 25, 1883. He attended the University of Kentucky and George Washington University and worked for the Kentucky Geological Society and the United States Geological Society before moving to Tulsa in 1914. He was involved in the drilling of several Oklahoma fields including the Boynton Oil Pool, Lot 180, Osage Oil Pool, the gas field southwest of Henryetta, Robinson Oil Pool, Checotah gas field, Wilcox gas field, Taft gas field, and South Yarhola Oil Pool.
