The student recycling center is a student-run business started in Foothill High School. It caters to companies which require paper to be shredded, and subsequently recycled, in addition to recycling plastics, aluminum, and paper on the campus. The business employs student workers, and gains additional labor from the "misbehaved" students who are serving Saturday school or detention.
History
The business was started by a special education teacher, Sean Pfaff, in 1994, to give his students life experience beyond the normal high school curriculum. At first, it was run in a small section of campus, a small alley area between two buildings. Eventually however, with the support of many businesses which came to take advantage of the service, the project was given its own portable classroom on the northern side of campus, a fenced off sorting area, and a truck used to transport the materials.
Outside Reference and Media
The Student Recycling Center has garnered the attention of the media and other sites a few times:
Sponsoring Companies
A few companies sponsor the student recycling center, as listed on the side of their truck, a picture of the truck would be great.
