Common Roots Cafe is an uptown cafe that offers made from scratch food with a focus on local ingredients that are organic and fair trade. Common Roots is well known for its popular "common room", which offers a meeting space for non-profit organizations and community groups.
The cafe is rooted in strong values of being local and being good environmental stewards. They focus on supporting local and organic farmers, eliminating waste through composting and recycling, and they designed the cafe with salvaged and environmentally friendly materials. Common Roots is very proud of their focus on local, organic, and fair trade food. In 2011 their local food came from 51 Minnesota producers in 22 counties. This included 38,600 pounds of local flour and over 18,000 pounds of meat (all purchases were from local farms). 87% of all ingredients were local, organic, or fair trade.
Extensive menus are available for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks, as well as coffee and other drinks. Popular items include their everything and poppyseed bagels, their coffee and beer, as well as various sandwiches, salads, and snacks.
