BART stands for Bay Area Rapid Transit. It is a heavy rail system that serves San Francisco and much of the East Bay. It has five lines between Pittsburg/Bay Point, Richmond, Dublin/Pleasanton, Fremont, Milbrae, and Daly City.

BART ticket prices are based on distance. A one-way ticket from Walnut Creek to downtown San Francisco costs $4.25. Discounted tickets are available for certain people (disabled, students on field trips, senior citizens, etc.). Information can be found on their website.

The Pleasant Hill Bart Station is located on land which is within Walnut Creek city limits. The station was originally to be called Walden Station.

The original 4.4 mile Bart test track began in Walnut Creek and ran to Concord. It was here that Bart construction began on June 19, 1964.
