William John Bird was born July 12, 1898 in Chapman Twp. to Robert Henry Bird and Francie Mahalie Johnson.

At the time of the 1901 and 1911 censuses, William was identified as living in Chapman Twp. with his parents and family. At the time of his enlistment on May 1, 1916, William more specifically identified the family as living at Pearcely.

William was killed in action August 8, 1918

In the Canada, War Graves Registers (Circumstances of Casualty) it is identified that William John Bird was killed during the advance on Beaucourt Woods, but that no details regarding circumstances are available.

The date of death is identified as August 8, 1918. He is identified as having been buried in  the Beaucourt Church Yard (3 ½ miles east of Noreuil, France).

August 8, 1918 marked the first day of what is known as the Battle of Amiens.
