CLAVIR, PTE. B. Reg. # 3039658

Pte. B. Clavir would appear to be Benjamin Louis Clavir born January 12, 896 to Elman Clavir of Toronto (as identified in the exceprt from Benjamin's Attestation paper below)

Benjamin enlisted on June 5, 1918 at Detroit.  He joined the 1st Depot Battalion of the 1st Central Ontario Regiment.

While at Camp Niagara, Benjamin  was assigned to the 2nd Battalion C.G.R. (Canadian Garrison Regiment - unit of 13 battalions formed in April 1918 to perform garrison duty in Canada's 13 military districts). He was discharged January 9, 1919. His service was in Canada.

Elman and Zipporah Clavir, parents of Benjamin, immigrated to Canada from Russia in 1888. At the time of the 1901 census, the family was identified as living in Christie Twp., but the Clavir family had strong ties to the Dunchurch and Ahmic Harbour area in part through Elman’s partnership with Jules Brown in the ownership and operation of the large general store in Ahmic Harbour later owned by John Henry Newell.

The family lived in Christie Township in 1901 where a sister Netti was born

In 1911, Elman was Clavir was shown in North Bay. The family was shown as immigrating to Canada in 1888 and being naturalized in 1902.
