West Beamer Street, Beamer Street, and East Beamer Street form a major east-west thoroughfare from County Road 98/Highway 16 (the western boundary of Woodland) to a dead end at the Target distribution center (the eastern boundary of Woodland). They fully overlap the entire route of County Road 21, except for a disjunct segment of that county road to the west of town.
Except for County Road 98 and County Road 102, no street passes through Beamer Street (or its East and West sister streets) without changing its name. Except for numbered streets (2nd, 3rd, and 4th Streets), these street name changes always involve adding "North" to the beginning of the street name when passing north of Beamer Street (or its East and West sister streets). Note: If looking for an address, there is a difference between, for example, "North College Street" and "College Street." Address numbers generally count upward as they move away from Beamer Street in either direction, so some house numbers or other building numbers do get reused.
Beamer Street becomes West Beamer Street west of West Street and becomes East Beamer Street east of East Street.
West Beamer Street
West Beamer Street runs between County Road 98/Highway 16 (the western boundary of Woodland) and West Street. Situated south of West Woodland Avenue and north of Antelope Street, it passes by Woodland High School, Yolo County Health Services, the Woodland YoloWorks Career Center, the Yolo County Department of Community Services, Greengate School, and Rhoda Maxwell Elementary School.
Kern Avenue, Ashley Avenue, Cottonwood Street, and West Street all have "North" added to the beginnings of their names on the north side of West Beamer Street. No other streets cross over. Sunrise Street, Dawn Drive, and Mariposa Street all begin at West Beamer Street and head north from it. Orange Street begins at West Beamer Street and heads south.
Beamer Street
Beamer Street runs between West Street and East Street. Situated south of Woodland Avenue and north of Clover Street, it passes by Christiansen Park and Beamer Elementary School.
The street name changes at Beamer Street are varied, as shown in the chart.
South of Beamer Street | North of Beamer Street |
West Street | North West Street |
Grand Avenue | North Grand Avenue |
Walnut Street | North Walnut Street |
College Street | North College Street |
2nd Street | Pershing Avenue |
3rd Street | Palm Avenue |
4th Street | Bliss Avenue |
East Street | North East Street |
North McKinley Avenue, Frost Drive, Fiske Avenue, North Cleveland Street, Hobo Alley, Freeman Street, Juneteenth Alley, Jackson Street, and Sutter Street all begin at Beamer Street and head north from it. (McKinley Avenue and Cleveland Street do not connect to the North versions of themselves.) Locust Street, Library Alley, 1st Street, Yolo Alley, Charlie Harper Alley, and 5th Street begin at Beamer Street and head south. (Except for Hobo Alley, none of these alleys have official names. Only three of Woodland's many alleys have been officially named.)
Beamer Street has been planted with street trees by the city. Street trees on Beamer Street include two invasive weed species: Purple-leaf Plum/Cherry Plum (Prunus cerasifera), and Flowering Pear/Callery Pear (Pyrus calleryana). However, other street tree species on Beamer Street include California Bay Laurel (Umbellularia californica), which is native to Woodland, and Modesto Ash/Arizona Ash (Fraxinus velutina), which is native to other parts of California. Other non-native street trees on Beamer Street include Red Maple (Acer rubrum), European Hackberry (Celtis australis), Common Hackberry (Celtis occidentalis), Chinese Hackberry (Celtis sinensis), Eastern Redbud (Cercis canadensis), Chinese Fringe Tree (Chionanthus retusus), English Walnut (Juglans regia), Crape Myrtle (Lagerstroemia indica), Fruitless Mulberry (Morus alba), Chinese Pistache (Pistacia chinensis), London Plane (Platanus × hispanica), Idaho Locust (Robinia × ambigua 'Idahoensis'), Japanese Pagoda Tree (Styphnolobium japonicum), and Saw-leaf Zelkova (Zelkova serrata).
East Beamer Street
East Beamer Street runs between East Street and a dead end at the Target distribution center (the eastern boundary of Woodland). It passes by Zitio, O Teriyaki, and Beamer Street Storage.
Pioneer Avenue becomes North Pioneer Avenue north of East Beamer Street, but County Road 102 does not change its name. These are the only two streets that cross through it at ground level. Interstate 5 crosses above it on an overpass. Harter Avenue begins at East Beamer Street and heads north, while Matmor Road begins at East Beamer Street and heads south.
