Don't Light Tonight is a wood smoke curtailment program run by the Yolo-Solano Air Quality Management District. Wood smoke from fireplaces and woodstoves is a significant contributor to winter air pollution in the region. On certain days when weather conditions are likely to prevent dispersion of wood smoke, a Don't Light Tonight advisory is called and residents are requested to refrain from burning wood. The season for advisories runs from November 1 through February 28. In 2012-13, 16 advisories were called in 120 eligible days.

Air pollution can have serious health effects, especially on children, the elderly and those with lung or heart ailments.

During the season, there are four ways residents can find out if a Don't Light Tonight advisory is in effect:

• Phone: The daily status will be available at 530-757-3787.
• Email: Subscribers to Yolo-Solano AQMD's EnviroFlash service will get email alerts when an advisory has been called.
• Website: If an advisory has been called, a banner will appear on Yolo-Solano AQMD’s website.
• Facebook: By "liking" Yolo-Solano AQMD on Facebook, residents will be alerted if an advisory is called.
