Ecorse (population 9,512) is a small city in northeastern Downriver. Major thoroughfares include West Jefferson Avenue, Southfield Road and Outer Drive. The current mayor is Lamar Tidwell.
Originally the village of Grandport when first developed in the late 1800s, it became the village of Ecorse in 1901. Known at the time as a resort community, it was given the nickname "Little Venice of the West End."
Ecorse would incorporate as a city in 1941.
